I personally loved the GRP stuff with Carlos on...
He rocked out at the Record Plant. Just got the DVD with both performances together so I am getting rid of the video copies if anyone wants them.
The version of Harlequin he dpoes is just absurd...

Fuse,
Yes, they're free, I want someone else to have the pleasure I've had out of them. He'll not be beaten on that gig...
They are in UK format though, don't know wether that'd make a difference...

I was actually [half-] jesting w ya, GM.
Does this coincide w the '85 album called GRP Live In Session, w CV, Abe Sr, Larry Wms, Rit, Grusin, Valentin, & Schuur, w the tunes Mountain Dance, St Elsewhere, dolphin dreams, & Rio Funk? I have this on [*doh!*] vinyl.
Vega was an OUTSTANDING musician. As I've said b4, REALLY terrible about his circumstances. He is sorely missed, likewise w Jeff. I'll throw in Bonzo, too, like i always do.

Yes Fuse my man, the very same...
The playing on that was among the tightest thing I've ever heard. Just such synergy between the members of the band, and what a feel. Just ry replicating the groove on Power Wave (chessy name huh?!) Easy enough to play, but to make it groove like 'Los did, never!!!

I was really into Special EFX "Slice of Life". It was the first time I was exposed to Weckl and it totally smoked my mind. Dennis is on there too. Hmmmm....maybe I should throw that one in the old CD player!

Have you tried eBay/half.com? Some surprises turn up there for silly money from time to time. I've bought CDs off eBay UK almost exclusively this year.

I used to be very excited about every GRP release (mid 80s-mid 90s); checkin’ the credits to see if the ? label’s house drummer ? or any CCEB member was on it.
I liked the CCEB (1st, Eye of the beholder, Inside out); CCAB, the Weckl solo stuff; GRP Big band (all 3); the Sandoval stuff (one of my favourite musicians) : Flight to freedom with Weckl, Dream Come True with Ersko, Danzon, Latin Train, I remember Clifford, Swingin’. The Yellowjackets’ Greenhouse with Will Kennedy; a couple of good moments with Robbie on Dave Valentin’s Live at the Blue Note; Spyro’s Fast Forward was actually quite good; Return of the Brecker Bros,…
I wondered what happened to this label and found this:
"In 1990, in order to take GRP to the next level and to expand their artists to larger levels of sales on a worldwide basis, the Grusin/Rosen team sold the label to MCA Music Entertainment Group for an estimated $40 million. MCA was shortly thereafter acquired by the Japanese electonics giant Matsushita. GRP continued to operate independently out of its New York headquarters—and continued to grow. In 1994, label founders Grusin and Rosen decided to pursue other business opportunities, and with the help of then head of MCA Entertainment Al Teller, searched for someone new to lead the company. They chose Grammy-winning and celebrated producer Tommy LiPuma. He began as President of the GRP Recording Company in the fall of 1994."
Now GRP is fully dedicated to smooth jazz...
